SUMMARY:Micro Pulse LiDAR: A Multiple Perspective View of Our Atmosphere
DESCRIPTION:\nMicro Pulse LiDAR: A Multiple Perspective View of Our Atmosph
ere\nHosted By: OSA Laser Systems Technical Group\n\n11 December 2019\, 14
 :00 - 15:00\n\nRegister Now\n\nAs extreme weather events become the norm\,
actively measuring and tracking clouds and aerosols will provide insights
for understanding the atmospheric structure and uncovering changes that h
ave an impact on our environment and health. Micro Pulse LiDAR (MPL) instr
uments deliver a vertical profile of the atmosphere\, including cloud heig
ht for Planetary Boundary Layer studies\, and measurements of particle dep
olarization\, for detecting aerosol physical properties and cloud phases.\
n\n\nIn this webinar hosted by the OSA Laser Systems Technical Group\, Dr.
Yunhui Zheng of Hexagon US Federal will explain the science behind this t
ype of atmospheric LiDAR. As part of the webinar\, Dr. Zheng will share th
e principle and benefits of an aerosol LiDAR for atmospheric research as w
ell as discuss how backscattering LiDAR provides a rich source of atmosphe
ric feature information. The webinar will also cover the application of at
tenuated backscattering\, depolarization\, and aerosol classification as w
ell as how to interpret the resulting data. Finally\, a quick walk through
of accumulated sample data\, which includes aerosol/boundary layer evolut
 ion\, cloud height/phase detection\, precipitation process observation\, d
ust/volcanic ash/pollen detection and identification will be presented.\n\
nRegister now to understand why this technology is necessary for weather f
 orecasting\, climate modeling\, and environmental monitoring.\n\nWhat You
Will Learn:\n\n LiDAR principals\n How backscattering LiDAR works\n How
others have applied this technology\n\nWho Should Attend:\n\n Those inte
rested in atmospheric remote sensing\, air quality monitoring\, meteorolog
 y\, LiDAR applications\, and photonic detection\n\nAbout the Presenter: Y
unhui Zheng\, Hexagon US Federal\nDr. Yunhui Zheng has more than 20 years
of experience in optics system engineering\, among which 15 years in the s
pace and airborne optics industry. Currently\, he is director of optical e
ngineering at Hexagon US Federal. Dr. Zheng has been involved in both larg
e scale spaceborne optics such as NASA WFIRST and microsat telescope ASU S
PARCS\, and designed or supported numerous optical remote sensing system s
uch as NASA SIMPL\, NASA ICESat-2\, LRS\, NASA MiniATM and Leica Single Ph
oton LiDAR. He is also the lead system engineer and scientist of Micro Pul
se LiDAR\, part of Hexagon. His experience covers budgeting\, planning\, l
eading\, designing\, and trade analysis of advanced systems.
