SUMMARY:Integration of 2-Dimensional Materials in Fiber Optics for Ultra-Sh
 ort Pulse Lasers
DESCRIPTION:\n\nHosted By: OSA Fiber Modeling and Fabrication Technical Gro
up\n\n\n\nNovel 2-dimensional materials are being intensively studied for
potential applications in electronic devices and new scientific findings i
n solid state physics. However\, inherent key issues related with the scal
e-up a par with Silicon technologies have not been fully resolved. In cont
rast to practical electronic applications\, nonlinear optic applications o
f 2-dimensional materials have shown a high feasibility for practical appl
ications\, especially when they are integrated to fiber optic devices.\n\n
In this webinar hosted by the OSA Fiber Modeling and Fabrication Technical
Group\, Dr. Kyunghwan Oh of Yonsei University will discuss the current st
atus of nonlinear optic studies of 2-dimensional materials such as graphen
e\, transition metal dichalcogenides\, and perovskites. Basic physical pri
nciples for nonlinear saturable absorption will be discussed and various s
tructures for implementing those 2-dimensional materials in fiber optic pl
atforms will be reviewed. Finally\, fiber laser cavities with these novel
saturable absorbers will be discussed in terms of pulse duration\, spectra
l width\, and average power. The webinar will be a good review for graduat
e students to pursue combination of fiber optics with new materials.\n\n\n
\nRegister Now\nWhat You Will Learn:\n• Optical properties of nonlinear
2-dimensional materials\n• Basic principle of short pulse generation in
laser physics\n• Saturable absorber structures in fiber optic platforms\
n• Fiber laser cavity design for short pulse generation\n\nWho Should At
 tend:\n• Undergraduate\, Masters\, and PhD Students\n• Researchers bot
 h in academia and industry\n\n\n\n\n\nTime\n\n\nMar 13\, 2020 08:00 PM in
 Eastern Time (US and Canada)\n\n\n
